Hymns and Readings – Third Sunday after Pentecost June 21, 2020

Opening Hymn  –  #524  I love thy kingdom, Lord

1  I love thy kingdom, Lord, the house of thine abode,
the Church our blest Redeemer saved with his own precious blood.

2  For her my tears shall fall; for her my prayers ascend;
to her my cares and toils be given, till toils and cares shall end.

3  Beyond my highest joy I prize her heavenly ways,
her sweet communion, solemn vows, her hymns of love and praise.

4  Jesus, thou friend divine, our Savior and our King,
thy hand from every snare and foe shall great deliverance bring.

5  Sure as thy truth shall last, to Zion shall be given
the brightest glories earth can yield, and brighter bliss of heaven.

Collect: O Lord, make us have perpetual love and reverence for your holy Name, for you never fail to help and govern those whom you have set upon the sure foundation of your loving-kindness; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

The Liturgy of the Word
The First Lesson: Genesis 21:8-21 or Jeremiah 20:7-13
The Gradual: Psalm 86:1-10, 16-17 or Psalm 69:8-20
The Epistle: Romans 6:1b-11
The Gospel: Matthew 10:24-39

In union, dear Lord, with your faithful people at every altar of your Church where your blessed Body and Blood are offered to the Father, I desire to offer to you praise and thanksgiving. I remember your death, Lord Christ; I proclaim your resurrection; I await your coming in glory. Since I cannot receive you in the Sacrament of your Body and Blood, I entreat you to come spiritually into my heart. I unite myself to you and embrace you with all the affections of my soul. Strengthen me with your grace, Lord Jesus, and let me never be separated from you. May I live in you, and you in me, in this life and in the life to come. Amen.

Offering Hymn  –  #679  Surely it is God who saves me

1  Surely it is God who saves me; trusting him, I shall not fear.
For the Lord defends and shields me and his saving help is near.
So rejoice as you draw water from salvation’s living spring;
in the day of your deliverance thank the Lord, his mercies sing.

2  Make his deeds known to the peoples; tell out his exalted Name.
Praise the Lord, who has done great things; all his works his might proclaim.
Zion, lift your voice in singing; for with you has come to dwell,
in your very midst, the great and Holy One of Israel.

Closing Hymn  –  #537  Christ for the world we sing!

1  Christ for the world we sing!
The world to Christ we bring with loving zeal;
the poor, and them that mourn, the faint and overborne,
sin-sick and sorrow-worn, whom Christ doth heal.

2  Christ for the world we sing!
The world to Christ we bring with fervent prayer;
the wayward and the lost, by restless passions tossed,
redeemed at countless cost from dark despair.

3  Christ for the world we sing!
The world to Christ we bring with one accord;
with us the work to share, with us reproach to dare,
with us the cross to bear, for Christ our Lord.

4  Christ for the world we sing!
The world to Christ we bring with joyful song;
the new-born souls, whose days, reclaimed from error’s ways,
inspired with hope and praise, to Christ belong.

Love God. Love Your Neighbor.

Change the World.
